In the Ordo for the Archdiocese of Vilnius for the year 1924 (that time
Vilnius was part of Poland) I have found an interesting prayer assigned by the
Archbishop for the Republic of Poland. The prayer should be sing after all
solemn Sunday masses and on the May 3rd (Polish national feast).
I know about customs of praying for:
- · for the emperor (my great-grandmother told me that in my region after the Sunday Mass people prayed for the Emperor of Austria-Hungary many years ago). The prayer is still to be found in the Missale Romanum
- · the good weather in the Switzerland and Germany.
- · for the Queen in England
- · for the King in Belgium
Is this practice alive in any of your churches, to pray for the Republic
and the president after Sunday mass?
Post Missam sollemnem diebus Dominicis necnon d. 3 Maji in omnibus
Ecclesiis parochialibus, filial. et regul. cantandae.
V. Salvam fac Rempublicam nostram, Domine.
R. Deus meus, sperantem in Te
V. Mitte ei, Domine, auxilium de sancto.
R. Et de Sion tuere eam.
V. Nihil proficiet inimicus in ea.
R. Et filius iniquitatis non nocebit ei.
V. Fiat pax in virtute Tua.
R. Et abundantia in turribus Tius.
V. Domine, exaudi orationem meam.
R. Et clamor meus ad Te veniat.
V. Dominus vobiscum.
R. Et cum spiritu tuo.
OREMUS.
insidiis.
Praetende, Domine, quaesumus, famulo Tuo STANISLAO Praesidi Reipublicae
dexteram caelestis auxilii: ut Te toto corde perquirat, et, quae digne
postulat, assequi mereatur. Per Christum Dominum nostrum.
R. Amen.
V. Divinum auxilium maneat semper nobiscum.
R. Amen.

I believe that there is a prayer for the French Republic which was mandated by the first post-revolutionary concordat.
This appears to be borne out by the following page on French Wikipedia. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pri%C3%A8re_pour_la_R%C3%A9publique_fran%C3%A7aise
Modernity now we have."Separation of Church and State" they say. So much lost.
In Lithuania, there is a custom of saying the prayer for the Fatherland on Sundays after the Asperges (while the priest is still in cope). You can find its text here - https://scholakaunensis.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/ordo-missae-a5-v7.pdf (page 6).
The pre-Conciliar rubrics for Lithuania say it should be said on all Sundays and on the national holiday (February 16, now we also add it on the second holiday - March 11).
Some (not many) older priests say it even in the Novus Ordo Mass, after the sprinkling, directly before the Gloria.
The first prayer “Defénde, quǽsumus, Dómine, etc.” is a variation of the Collect prayer Pro congregatióne et família.
By the side, it is the Lithuanian form of the prayer:
℣. Salvam fac pátriam nostram, Dómine.
℟. Et exáudi nos in die, qua invocavérimus te.
℣. Mitte ei, Dómine, auxílium de sancto.
℟. Et de Sion tuére eam.
℣. Fiat pax in virtúte tua.
℟. Et abundántia in túrribus tuis.
℣. Dómine, exáudi oratiónem meam.
℟. Et clamor meus ad te véniat.
℣. Dóminus vobíscum.
℟. Amen.
℣. Divínum ✠ auxílium máneat semper nobíscum.
℟. Amen.
